Thinking back to when Trevor and I were hunting as first home buyers — young, eager and so excited. We got dressed up for our first open house like our first impression would help sweeten any offer. We learned quickly we’d have to act fast — the market was crazy in Seattle back then too. We ended up losing a few and then somehow landed this craftsman beauty, where we transitioned from our downtown loft with no walls into a space with many more rooms (and doors).
Smalls had a real-life fort, with carpet he loved to roll on. We’d paint every room. Chip away at filling with furniture as we could afford it. Remodel our exterior to add more curb appeal, changing the robin egg blue to a modern grey. It was, just as we thought, like playing house. The neighborhood brought us convenience, great neighbors, easy access to the city, restaurants, walks. We each had our own office. We converted a basement storage room into a gym. We created an oasis for the summer on our deck. It was the home we’d start our family in. With a nursery for our little guy on the way who’d also eventually take over our guest bedroom as a playroom. The space we’d survive several career shifts and even a global pandemic in.
Over the last two years, we’d go back and forth on whether we were ready for a change. A little quieter of a neighborhood. A more open floor plan. A bigger outdoor space. Something we could remodel inside to make more our own. It was a hard decision because we had everything we needed, but knew we had to think about a life for someone other than us, and hopefully his future sibling.
Come the end of fall, we said let’s do it. We didn’t know when the right time would be to sell, but we listened to our gut and it’s official. We’re luckily able to stay through the new year to have time to plot our next move. And though I’m nervous I don’t know where that will be, this transition feels more than right.
Until then, soaking in our final holiday together in this home 🤍 hopeful and ready for change.
