I was born in Chicago and raised in the suburbs and resided there for the first 18 years of my life with my immediate and extended family. After I finished high school, my parents made the decision to relocate to a small town in the northeast corner of Washington state. I knew literally no one, but luckily went straight to college at Washington State University (Go Cougs!) where I made many connections and lifelong friends. And yes, I was in a sorority. Delta Gamma — anchors away ⚓️.
Unexpectedly in a nutshell! I was all set to move to New York City when I turned 26 — I had friends to stay with, a job lined up and had sold most of my belongings. One summer night in Seattle after boating all day with friends, I found myself at LTD bar in Fremont with a sundress on over my swim suit and a fedora hat (disheveled to say the least). Trevor was with a guy friend I knew from college and being my smooth self I invited the two of them to an after party at a friends house up the street. The night ended with Trevor showing off his manliness in an arm wrestling competition and me being confident and asking for his number. We’d chat here and there and I didn’t think much of it since I was moving. He saw on Facebook I was heading to a music festival in San Francisco and followed me down to hang. That’s when the sparks began. Upon returning home we were inseparable, hanging out every day, falling in love. I met his parents shortly after and I’ll never forget when his mom said “we’d really like it if you would stay”. So I canceled my plans and the rest is history! We got engaged in NYC which was the best.
Smalls is 8 years old and I can hardly believe it! We got him when he was 6 weeks old and we could hold him in the palm of his hand. I didn’t know much about the French Bulldog breed but Trevor had always wanted to get one. It was the best decision we ever made. He brings so much joy to our lives with his silly personality and attitude. Fun fact, he can run five fast miles!
My style can be described as classic but modern, simple with added edge. I often wear grey and black and my home is decorated in white and neutrals. I’m all about investing in the classics, while keeping up with fast, fun trends. I love to mix high and low price points and share wearable styles for the street.
I’m 5’4″, wear a XS-S in tops, a 0-2 in bottoms and a 7-1/2 size shoe.
I’d have to say my black Céline Belt Bag. It was my first ever designer bag that I got during our trip to Paris. Trevor and I have a thing where each year during an international trip, one person gets to splurge on something fun. It was my turn that trip and I was the giddiest I’d ever been in a store.
My favorite place to shop is definitely Nordstrom. They got it goin on in all areas across product, customer service, return policy and trends. I also love treasure hunting at the Rack — I’ve scored some damn good finds there! In addition, I love Shopbop, Revolve, Net-A-Porter, Farfetch, Asos, Aritzia, Anthropologie, Madewell, Topshop, Free People, Zara, Mango, H&M and of course — Amazon.
I’ve always been interesting in blogging, and actually had three other blogs before The Grey Edit. In need of a creative outlet, and after friends would suggest I should start a style blog, I decided to take the leap. On the morning of my birthday I bought a domain and spent the whole weekend creating my site in my pjs. I was obsessed — and still am. Leaving my digital mark and building a brand is something that excites the hell out of me.
This honestly was the hardest part! I spent months going back and forth on a name. I knew I wanted something that didn’t sound too girly and that was a reflection of my style. I loved how the word “edit” was used in fashion publications and so that stuck immediately. Then I fell in more love with having grey in the title — because I am a lover of all things monochromatic and well, Seattle :). So thus, The Grey Edit was born, and I love how it’s evolved.
I’ve always been a Canon lover (and have had manyyy point and shoot cameras), and so when I decided to purchase a DSLR before our honeymoon I went for an intermediate model and settled on the Canon 70d. But as of late I just upgraded to the Sony Alpha 6500 and am LOVING it! Regarding photogs — I use a variety of them! I come from a family of creatives and so I leaned on my two very talented younger brothers for photos at the start — Dillon Gogarty & Donovan Gogarty. Trevor is a sweetheart and plays photo during all of our travels. If I want to get some profesh shots done I’ve used local talented ladies Jenna Lynn, Karya Schanilec and Sarah Wolfe. And lately, I’ve been setting up “sip and shoots” with fellow bloggers where we grab a coffee or a drink and then snap an outfit or two with my camera. I prefer using my camera so I can edit in a specific way.
This was a constant learning — and still is! I use Lightroom and have developed my own set of presets that I like to use for my blog and on my phone. I’ve recently added them to an online store — check it!
Best advice I can lend for anyone who is thinking about blogging? Start now. I kick myself every day for not starting earlier. Once you begin, it’s a journey and you’ll find your blog and your brand evolving day by day — which is the most exciting part! So figure out your niche, think about who you want to talk to and just do it!
I use WordPress.org and self-host my site using Bluehost. I manage my domain using G-Suite and run my email marketing through Mailchimp. I swear by everything Google so use docs, slides and sheets for running the behind the scenes of all my content. I share photos through drive and on mobile swear by the following apps: Lightroom mobile, Mosaico, Canva, Unfold and RewardStyle.
As of lately — yes! Eeek. I left my corporate job earlier this year (read the full story here) to try my hand at being an entrepreneur. I’m currently working to build a brand using my blog as the main tool, sell various services to help women with styling and am developing a product under my brand with my husband. Lots of fun in the works!
