Hello August! Happy to report I’m officially done squeezing my belly into non-maternity wear and that the Stylelogue gals and I are onto our TENTH month of this recurring style series. This issue, we’re excited to share with you ways to wear the strong and ever-so-confident monochromatic trend we’re dubbing ‘Color Formation‘.

RIBBED TANK | LONG BLAZER | SILK MIDI SKIRT | CREAM SATCHEL | NUDE PUMPS | FROST CAT EYE SUNNIES
Okay ladies now let’s get in color formation…
In case you’ve missed one of the biggest trends to hit the runways and retail stores over the last year, let’s talk about monochromatic styling. This color scheme is based on only one, single color (hence the word ‘mono’ in the name). When styling, the trick is to bring in various shades pertaining to one chosen color tint.
Most recently, you’ve likely seen this trend show up in cohesive suiting pairings and other ensembles ranging in neutrals (like Burberry’s spring 2019 RTR collection) to pastels and color pops (like Tibi’s spring 2019 RTR collection).
In 2019 the trend is forecasted to show up across various pops of color and print while being appropriate for the workplace with heels and a skirt or the street by adding casual elements like a sneaker or shorts.

Funny story about this look — I had a major pregnant brain moment during this shoot. One I was really bummed about actually considering I really loved my outfit.
It would be my first time pulling off a head-to-toe monochromatic look via suiting and I had scored big at Aritzia. I own this blazer in black and decided this pale pink would be the perfect color addition for summer — plus I adore the long, tailored fit. This ribbed top was the perfect piece for underneath the blazer that would tuck so nicely into these matching tailored trousers I found to complete the set. The perfect ‘meant for the office and then some’ outfit.
BUT as luck would have it, I showed up to our back-to-back July and August shoot sans pants. Luckily, Mary’s elevated silk skirt from our July issue was available and though it didn’t quite match the exact pale pink look I was going for — ended up playing very nicely with the cream accessories I had brought for styling. So if you squint your eyes this month, my look appears to be one color… even though it actually, is not ;). Your girl is a little out of formation but still pulled off a dressier, work-type ensemble.

The girls on the other hand, pulled off their looks seamlessly… head to toe color variations in lilac and marigold. I love how the three of us cover casual to dressy in three unique ways.
SHOP ELISA’S EDIT
V-NECK CARDIGAN | TIE WAIST TROUSERS | SLIDE SANDAL | TOP HANDLE BAG | OVAL SUNNIES
Elisa decided to make a splash with a bold yellow color with pieces across golden hues. Her v-neck cardigan paired with a relaxed tie waist trouser is the perfect set for weekday or weekend type activities. I love the easy sandal allowing for a casual look and structured bag + statement sunnies lending a bit of sass to the look. Totally E.

DYED DENIM JACKET | DYED POCKET SHORTS | SNEAKERS | BASKET BAG | COLOR SUNNIES
Mary decided to keep things ultra casual and extra playful this month, while covering a top color of 2019 — lilac. She found a matching dyed denim set to which her jacket was worn off the shoulder to spice up the short pairing. Throw on some Air Force Ones, an on-trend basket bag and ultra bright sunnies, and she’s ready for some outdoor music festival fun!
We’ve been having far too much fun curating looks for you month over month as trend forecasters. If there’s ever anything you’d like to see in the months ahead, let me know in the comments below!
And if you’re wanting to get in a little more on the fun — be sure to follow the #seattlestylelogue hashtag on Insta and use it when you rock the monochromatic trend!
