In case you missed it, we closed on a new home this summer. It’s a home that checked all of the boxes with midcentury style, a Seattle location, views of the water and the opportunity to make our own. Given baby number two will be joining us in late Jan/early Feb, we’re starting renovations right away. Sharing about our home as is along with remodeling plans in this post.
The home is a contemporary style with midcentury design built in 1978. It’s located in a protected community with expansive views of Lake Washington and golf cart access to Sand Point Country Club. Deceiving from the outside, the house is 4,000 sq ft with a main floor living like a rambler and a lower level with plenty of natural light. It has lots of original charm, with solid bones and build.
I’ve been dreaming about a remodel project since living in our old Craftsman. We did a massive exterior project years ago but never any interiors outside of painting and decorating — and this one will be quite the interior and exterior project. Though we’re hoping to keep a lot of the original midcentury character, we’re excited to modernize its many funky quirks with a phased remodel approach:
We feel lucky to have found a contractor through our network of friends with an opening that aligned perfectly with our timeline. They’ve been wonderful so far in helping us break down everything from projects to costs and between the help of them and our interior design duo, we’re feeling on track and excited. Phase I is well underway, with hopes of completing by late Jan/early Feb just in time for baby’s arrival. Phase II will begin right after, hopefully being completed by the spring. Phase III & IV… well, we’re just gonna need a breather and more time to save, because whoa.
We originally had the idea of just needing to update the primary en-suite, making it the bedroom/bathroom/closet of our dreams. But what you hear is true about remodels — you tend to add on and expand quickly. So this turned into the entire main floor of our home. Because as our contractors put it — “it’ll be well worth your time and money to do it all at once”. They sure sold us.
Phase I now includes renovating the entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen and primary en-suite, while converting the guest bedroom to my office, second laundry room to Trevor’s office and the guest bathroom to a powder room.

I’ve been working closely with our designers on bringing my mood boards to life room by room coupled with design plans, which I’ll be sure to share in an upcoming post. Until then, be sure to follow along on instagram for daily stories and check my renovation highlight for all the updates.
