Music has always been a pretty big part of my life. I really think I owe this to my mother who would play music of all kinds in our house. When my dad was out of town for work, she’d turn the stereo volume on loud and we’d sing at the top of our lungs dancing around the kitchen.

As I grew older, I progressed from 80s pop and butt rock and dabbled in other genres with fave artists being…

Then I went through an obsession with Dave Matthews Band in high school and college — following with the masses. My fun fact was that I saw him perform over 20 times in venues across Washington, California, Illinois, Wisconsin, New York and Australia.

My Music Style Now

Now, I’d say I have an ear and a passion for straight beats. What exactly is a beat you say?

A beat is the steady, repeating pulse in music. Essentially, when you tap your foot to music at a steady pace, you are tapping to the beat.

My thirst for a constant pulse has led me to love everything from indie-electronic, to deep house and disco. Mixed in with that comes pop-guitar chords of the Shins, dream pop sounds of Beach House and the psychedelic-pop vocals of Tame Impala for those mellow moods.

Monthly Goodness

I love finding new music based on this foundation and adore putting together playlists for events. Call it being a control freak, but there’s something very soothing about setting the soundtrack for a place and a time, which is why I’m excited to introduce a new monthly series, delivered to all followers of The Grey Edit.
