We’re living in a pretty exciting time.
More than ever before, women have a voice. There’s a platform and a conversation that’s steady. There’s awareness, openness and empowerment.
Not only are women being heard, they are creating the lives they’ve always wanted to live.
Working while raising children… turning their passions into hustles… making money while traveling the world… becoming founders of their own businesses.
I get inspired by women that continue to break through the barriers set forth in our society. It’s hearing their stories and watching their positive impact that motivates me to want to leave a mark of my own.
The celebration of women is key — and more importantly, women celebrating other women.
Which is why I’m thrilled to share with you the story of two female founders, who were so passionate about highlighting the accomplishments of influential women from history and today, that they created a product entirely about just that.
Meet andieanderin.

Cara and Lisa are the creators and founders of the Seattle-born brand, andieanderin. After years of wanting to start a business together, they finally landed on the perfect idea that had to do with being a part of the growing conversation around female empowerment.
They sought out to create a statement accessory that would highlight notable women of the past and present and landed on a necktie — one badass representation of the women’s movement in the late seventies and the rise of women in the workforce in the eighties.
Taking into account the hard facts around gender stereotypes, they felt there was no better time then now to highlight strong female role models to both girls and women.
Andie from Pretty in Pink (Cara) and Erin Brokovich (Lisa) got to work right away on designing a collection and getting funding for their idea. In November of 2017 they released seven amazing “pussybows” celebrating one hell of a lineup:
Each necktie is made of 100% silk and comes in a beautifully handcrafted package with a storyboard highlighting the female’s history and accomplishments. The stories are even printed by a female-led print house here in Seattle.
Talk about cool.
Earlier in the year ‘Parton Our Fringe – Dolly Parton and ‘Grand Slammers’ – Serena Williams joined the crew and this November, the ladies have added on more to their girl gang.
Just last week five more beautiful silk neckties were released:
It’s no surprise I opted for the ‘Stone Stories’ necktie due to its marble print — but the coincidental piece is that the chosen style is symbolic of the natural materials the architect Maya Lin used in her landscape works of art.
#FunFact — my original major was architecture. I switched to advertising as I wanted more design related to communication but ended up keeping it as my minor.
Lin is most famous for her Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC and the leather strips at the tail end of the necktie represent the black stone wall used at the base of the design.
Maya Lin is also responsible for designing the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama and has been honored by Obama with the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom — such notable achievements.
I love the way this statement piece adds an ounce of power to any outfit. It’s subtle enough as a small accessory, but bold in the massive story it tells. Knowing that I’m representing a woman who carries an insane list of projects that speak to her passion about the environment, inspires me to dedicate my time to the passions I have.
I’m looking forward to styling this necktie with many of the monochromatic outfits I lean towards — like this one. I wanted colors that would complement the marble tones in the piece so opted for some of my favorite elevated basics.
These statement accessories are the perfect addition to any basic outfit — it will take your look from zero to elevated, ready for any important meeting, girls night out or social event. Knowing that I’m representing someone as great as Lin gives me the confidence to take on any situation.
The ‘Stone Series’ necktie I received came with a special storyboard with a quote from Maya that I feel is a perfect ending to this post and to the amazing women reading with all the potential in the world:
“Always persevere. Never ever give up. We live in a world of suppression because of our race and gender. So never become complacent, especially now.”
Thank you so much to Cara and Lisa for this collaboration. I’ve been a huge supporter of what you guys have been doing and I’m honored to know more than I did before about your story, and can’t wait to continue to rock this andieanderin necktie from season to season.
If you want to join in on the conversation — of us women, supporting and celebrating other women — head to andieanderin.com and see which necktie resonates most with you and your style, or plan a gift for someone special. These gals would make excellent presents for the holidays!
