The other day I was listening to a Lewis Howes podcast about beating out anxiety, burnout and overwhelm.
I was listening to it because as of late I’ve been freaking out about the fact that I left my corporate job almost half a year ago now (catch the latest post if you haven’t already) with not a whole lot to show for it (in my eyes).
He talked about setting anchors throughout your day, things that you do every day that are non-negotiable that you know will make you feel good and produce better.
One of the examples he gave as an anchor was making your bed — and I couldn’t agree more with how important this is.
So this Friday, lets talk about five reasons why you should make your bed.
Every. Damn. Morning.
Though it may seem small, having an accomplishment right off the bat like making your bed as soon as you wake up can do wonders. It’s one check mark on your list. It’s one little boost of motivation that can lead you to checking off additional tasks throughout the day, making you feel good from the start and motivated to be productive.
Make yo bed.
If you follow me on Insta stories, you know I’m all about writing daily gratitudes down in my Five Minute Journal. Well making your bed in the morning actually is a sign of gratitude — showing that you are grateful for the bed you get to lay your head and rest your body on. You are taking pride in your domain — the place you actually spend about one third of your entire life in. Crazy to think about, right?
Tidy up those angelic sheets.
I don’t know about you but if there’s anything out of order and untidy in my house while I’m there working, I get s t r e s s e d. Like to the point where I spend a good hour in the am just making sure all is in order so I can actually produce. Not sure if that’s the best method BUT what are ya gonna do? I know. Scale it back a little and make your bed as soon as you wake up. Your bed will be tidy which will reduce stress and then likely you’ll want to keep you bedroom tidy as well which will reduce even more stress!
De-stress your life and make that bed.
When you climb in at night after a long chaotic day to your messy as hell bed, the feeling of being able to rest easy seems sometimes intangible. However, when you come into your sleep sanctuary after a long productive day and slowly remove your pillows and slide down your crisp sheets and quilt, the feeling of serenity seems near. It’s a treat to slide into your clean linens for a solid night of z’s. Trust me.
Slide into crisp sheets for better z’s
If you’re not one to normally make your bed you might be thinking, what’s the big deal? It’s such a small thing and it’s going to get messy again anyways?! But what you must realize, is that this small act of tidiness in the morning can bring the biggest return. Sometimes the little things can often get overlooked, but they’re the ones that matter most over time. Like kissing your partner before they head to work and when they come home — it’s important. And if you can’t a small amount of time on the little things, what makes you think you’ll spend time on the big things that really matter?
Little or big — make your effing bed.
So tell me, do you make your bed already? Or are you going to start today :)?
