As a second-time mom, I’ve accumulated some knowledge when it comes to the essential items you need for your baby on the way. Lucky for us, number two is another boy, so we’ll definitely be reusing a lot of the items we have already. Given my baby shower is this next weekend and I’ve had to compile another of my own, I thought I’d compile a list of what to put on your baby registry.
check out my post on what i packed three years ago, too!
I swore by Aden + Anais swaddles for baby number one and I still have so many left over. For this second, we’ll be adding a few more neutral-colored muslin options by Little Unicorn.
All about texture here — go for waffle, bamboo, muslin, knit, faux fur and cotton options.
An essential for the home and then some. You’ll place your babe in them on the floor, bed, couch and even crib/bassinet (though you’ll read often not too, shh). They’re also great for travel vs hauling a bassinet. We went with the Dockatot, but the Snuggle Me is a fan favorite too. Endless cover options for your preferred aesthetic.
Regardless of if you have carpet or a rug, you’ll want a dedicated mat for babe to lay, roll and play on. Something that is washable or easily wipeable. I’m loving this cute leaf cotton mat or round lilypad option. Along with the cushioned foam options like this one from House of Noa or this one from Pottery Barn.
So I was super silly the first time around and somehow avoided buying a diaper bag. I evaluated a ton, but ultimately decided to just keep using my large totes like my Longchamp bag or Feral Leather Backpack. Doable, but not practical. Go for a bag that’s meant for your needs. This time around I’ll be using the Mina Baie Backpack and the Caraa Tote — along with the appropriate accessories for changing and strollering.
This was our most used item for sure around the house. You’ll learn you need to set up stations and this guy was the best — especially while mom took a shower and babe hung right by. We went with the BabyBjorn but there are so many good options. Love the look of the Bloom, Stokke and Charlie Crane.
An obvious necessity (but not everyone will need or use). I love the Bibs brand and we’ll plan to purchase these again.
Car seat — We have this one by Nuna for the infant stage and love it/will be using again for number two. when they outgrow, i recommend sticking within the same brand and going for this convertible option.
Convertible stroller – Lasty, this option by Doona is a must! Literally, a transformer that adjusts from car seat to stroller. We use it for travel and are bringing it to the hospital for baby’s departure.
Everyday stroller – we have this one by Bugaboo which was a great everyday stroller and came with a bassinet feature for the early months. We’ll also be using again for number two and have on my registry this new canopy and wheeled board so bo can ride along.
Travel stroller – I also recommend a more lightweight city/travel stroller and the YoYo has been amazing. This is what we’ll still use for our toddler, Boden.
Last pregnancy, we used the Colugo carrier and loved it. This time, we’re trying the BabyBjorn for the infant stage. I have been drooling over the Artipoppe carriers of course, but that’s if you have a bigger budget.
I created a post for my first pregnancy on favorite baby clothing brands and then did another recent one for where I’ll be doing seasonal hauls for clothes. On our registry, we started with basics:
Fuzzies to keep those feetsies warm during winter.
Same for the head during the colder months and even into Spring.
I strive for organic cotton here and long sleeve with footed bottoms.
For sleeping.
For staying in during sleep and comfort.
We’ll be trying Boon Nursh bottles this time around, which in my opinion are the more stylish looking of Comotomo.
I have my tried and true plug-in the wall from Medela from last time and will be pairing with the Willow 3.0 for a portable, hands-free option this time. I’ve also heard great things about the Willow Go.
We’re reusing our Stokke high chair (and really wish we could swap our black out for the natural color bc black does show everything). Also linked some stylish options. Don’t forget a portable version too for travel.
Go for silicone everything.
Nice to have option for sink and an insert for your bathtub (we went with this).
Love muslin everything and then a cute hooded option.
You’re gonna need ’em!
Our favorites from last time included Coterie (pricey but best by far, softest, zero rashes, best absorption), then Honest and Pampers for overnight.
We had the Munchkin last time, now we’re trying out the Hatch.
Used Honest last time, now trying Water Wipes.
We just got the Munchkin.
Trevor was in chanrge of choosing the “baby tech” and did a ton of research/landed on Nanit. Have heard great things about the Owlet however too.
Definitely love the touch free option.
Again, definitely going to need ’em!
A must first stuffed animal — Boden still sleeps with his “Buddy”
Essentials IMO to have on the shelf
Keep it simple, they really don’t play until 6 months
You’ll want “stations” for them to be on their back and then to sit in
