Investing in Your Style

If there’s one thing I could leave with my followers, it would be how important investing in your own style is. 

It’s something that I’ve learned over the years and a lesson that really has come with time, trial and error. It’s also something I think about every time I open the doors to a closet full of clothes I barely wear anymore.

At The Grey Edit, I’m on a mission to teach you, my friends, how to take time to learn and perfect your style as you move throughout life. Because once you start thinking about style with that simple idea in mind, the items you decide to fill your life with tend to be of lesser quantity and of much higher value. 

Elevated Basics

If you’re a regular visitor, you know something I talk about often is the idea of “Elevated Basics”. If you’re new here, I’ll explain a little further what this concept that means. 

Basics are the most important ingredient in building a good wardrobe. Not just any basics — long-lasting, high quality basics that can act as a base layer to build upon season after season. Pieces that can be worked into multiple outfits due to their less than overpowering design. Items with clean lines and modern tailoring that stabilize an outfit rather than dominate it.

These elevated basics can be worn with just about anything and can be dressed up, dressed down or any way you see fit. A crisp white tee… a good pair of denim… a neutral heel or white structured bag… catch my drift?

But the most important thing about choosing elevated basics for your own wardrobe, is making sure the items are truly a reflection of your own personal style — or as I like to call your own “edit”. 

And if you follow the rules of adding investment-worthy basics that scream you to your wardrobe — the items will last you a lifetime and you in return will be happy.

The New Elevated Casual Brand : ROKWOLF

I’m always on the lookout for elevated basics to add to my own wardrobe and share with you to potentially add to yours — especially those from unique brands that maybe you haven’t heard of before. 

So when I came across this new elevated casual brand — ROKWOLF — I knew I had to get my hands on their product to test out for the both of us.

I first learned about the brand on of my favorite blogger’s feed — Lauryn Evarts Bosstick of The Skinny Confidential. She and her husband Michael were posing in what looked like the most comfortable matching two piece set ever. So I started digging into the brand and their story…

Conceptualized by a husband and wife duo out of North Carolina (goals) with the idea that the best wardrobe essentials are those made of simplistic design, high-quality materials and unmatched comfort — ROKWOLF is the epitome of elevated basics, or elevated casual as they call it.

The clean lines and quality materials used to make ROKWOLF pieces were inspired by Swedish design — as well as the name. “Rök” is an iconic rare stone in Sweden that they wanted their fabric quality to mirror. And “wolf” was used to pull in the essence of the captivating animal that is intelligent and powerful. Thus the brand ROKWOLF was formed for both men and women who wish to follow their instincts and stand out from the crowd.

Cool right?

ROKWOLF was established this year, in 2018, and has so far released one collection — “Season 1” — that consists of tees, tanks, long sleeves and joggers of monochromatic colors consisting of black, grey and olive. And get this — each piece is designed in the US and manufactured in Peru using the world’s finest Pima Cotton. Each jogger pant is comprised of 97% Pima Cotton and 3% Spandex. Each shirts 48% Pima Cotton, 48% Modal, and 4% Spandex. 

Swoon.

So…. elevated basics… monochromatic colors… the softest materials… sounds like heaven right?! I mean, to me that is just perfection. You guys know my edit includes all of the above. 

This made narrowing down an outfit to try extremely hard, but I decided to stick with what I love and know best — a little black on black action.

So what you’re seeing in this post is yours truly, prancing around with my #1 homie Smalls in the most luxurious two-piece set to grace my wardrobe.

The women’s Escape Tank in Matte Black is insane you guys. First of all, I love a good muscle tank. The cut just complements my broad shoulder / small chest build. This tank has a slim fit with the perfect size arm hole. The stretch is SO good, it just feels like a hug. Perfect for wearing alone in the warmer months or for layering in the cold. It’s breathable, has a subtle scoop bottom hem that makes the booty and legs pop, and has a higher neck (which I also love).

Pair this tank with the women’s Jetset Ankle Jogger in Matte Black and ooh wee! I’ve always had a bit of trouble with joggers as my calfs tend to be on the larger size, but these babies fit like a glove. They’re slimmer fit, allow for the perfect pop of ankle and are ohhh sooo comfortable. I love the details these pants have too — from the contrast drawstrings to the zipper pockets perfect for your phone and the wide waistband that offers comfort rather than cutting in on the tummy. I feel like I can wear these anywhere — and I have been! Out for a day of errands, on my way to a workout class, at home creating content. They’re sporty-chic and meant for it all. And oh — they make your butt look pretty alright too :).
