You guys.
I’m pretty excited to share with you a new service I’ve been using that’s changing the way women-on-the-go like you and I add high-end looks to our closet.
Meet the new female-powered Seattle startup — Armoire — a company that allows you to borrow everyday contemporary pieces for as long as you want and then swap them out for new.
—
As someone who’s never really done the whole clothing rental company subscription thing, I was uber intrigued by how something like this could change the way I shop.
I mean, to be honest — I’m pretty much a shopoholic. But, let’s be clear — that habit is not entirely sustainable.
But the ability to wear new styles, “it looks” while keeping a refreshed appearance as the months pass and the seasons change is soo addicting — am I right?
So let’s talk a little about the Armoire experience, shall we?
#ProTip : if you read through this post, you’ll be given a unique discount code to try the service at a special rate!
When I first heard about the service, I went to explore their website to learn about the process — like a true millennial ;).
Here’s where I got excited — when you click on any of the buttons on the home page, you’re taken to an area where you’re asked a series of questions to learn about what it is you’re looking ranging across style, inspiration and fit. This is where your “Style Profile” is built.
This Armoire algorithm learns your style by you favoriting a variety of pieces that excite you — from blouses to culottes, and jumpsuits to dresses. I chose items with an elevated basic feel (high neck blouses, cropped pants, classic dresses with added edge).
Then you share which colors and patterns you normally steer clear of — I chose pink, purple and brown along with plaid — as well as the necklines and sleeve-lengths you prefer.
Finally, you teach the system about your desired fits — how you like your tops, pants and other items to sit on your specific figure. You’re also able to share what specific items you’re in need of for any upcoming occasions you might have.
Once you complete all questions (this took under 5 minutes), you’re presented with a closet of options that the algorithm chooses based on your answers. This was so fun to see. The little tech gal in me loves this kind of ish — digitally enabled and data informed!
In my closet I was able to give feedback on what items I loved, felt indifferent about and disliked.
Once I hit submit, I was told I’d be contacted by an Armoire stylist to plan and curate my in-person styling session.
Woo! So fun!
I was contacted by a senior stylist at Armoire named Stephanie who began my very personalized experience. This was already very different than the one time I had used Rent the Runway for a special occasion.
Taking into consideration the outcome of the Armoire algorithm via my Style Profile, Stephanie was able to put together a collection of items she thought would be fitting for my style and needs. She had access to my blog and instagram, which helped her get an idea of my classic/chic street style that often involves black, white and neutrals.
She invited me to come visit the Armoire studio (located inside the beautiful female-forward co-working space on Capitol Hill — The Riveter) — for my official 1:1 style session. Here, we would go through each of the items she chose, one by one, and I would get to decide on the first four items I’d like to borrow and take home for the month of use.
Upon arriving to the space, I was greeted with refreshments and a cheerful staff who showed me down to the studio with my curated items.
This was SO cool. A rack with items personalized to my liking, and the ability to ask for other options or sizes if I chose.
Stephanie provided me a mix of items that ranged from casual tops to dressy blouses, everyday denim to tailored culottes and classic jumpsuits to floral on-trend dresses.
I was overwhelmed with the amount of pieces I loved and after narrowing down my selection to about ten, I decided on my four items to take home. The best part about Armoire however, is that you’re not tied to the items you initially select. You can swap out as many as you wish throughout the month — so cool! So the remaining six items I was loving can totally be integrated into my closet as well!
Watch my live experience from this day via my insta-story highlight here.
Note : if you’re not local, this experience can still be mirrored! Armoire offers virtual sessions and plenty on personalized communication to determine which items you want to be shipped to you for the month!
So what four items did I decide to take home with me from Armoire on this amazing day?
Well you guys know I’m all about versatile basics from contemporary brands that have an added #ontrend flair — so naturally I chose an assortment that I could style numerous ways throughout the month.
And because I’m all about a little suspense, I’m sharing two out of the four items in this post (next two to come).
A pair of olive culottes from Kate Spade’s Broome Street collection that have a wide leg, tailored fit with button detail near the waist.
These pants scream sophistication but also give off a playful vibe.
I styled them with a warm weather striped lace tank with tie detail for a feminine look. Accessories included a pair of neutral heeled mules and a structured white crossbody tote for a touch of modern.
A pair of embroidered boyfriend jeans from Scotch & Soda that offer the perfect relaxed fit, rolled ankle detail and just the right amount of sass with cheeky sayings placed all over the legs like “hello goldie”, “do not disturb”, “lady luck”, “chop chop, let’s race to some place”.
I love how different this pair of denim is. I honestly haven’t seen anything like it. Not only is the quality through the roof, but the slight accent of varying fonts and color detail give the pants a young, fresh feel.
I styled them with a black fringe high-neck tank and a pair of suede mule sandals for a downtown date night look.
Alas, you’ve reached the end. And lucky for you — there’s a special treat!
In partnership with Armoire, I’m so excited to offer friends and followers of The Grey Edit a special discount code that provides $30 off your first month of service. You can try one-time with this rate and decide whether it’s something you’d like to continue on a regular monthly basis.
I know I’m pumped to carry on my relationship with Armoire, and I hope you are just as excited to give them a try. Local or afar — don’t miss the opportunity to dress the way you’ve always wanted.

Love the culottes and tied top ensemble. The purse is great as well. It looks casual and yet dressy enough for many Metropolitan settings during Summer.
What a great idea for a service. The idea of renting clothes is a wonderful forward thinking idea.
Good luck to Armoire and you look great in these piece Courtney!
Karin you are so kind with your positive words! I love mixing a little casual with dressy for a Modern Chic look :). Renting has been really fun and I’m looking forward to more experiences and fun new items!
I love this idea and really want to try it! Do they cater to pregnant women? lol.
HI Lauren!! Armoire actually has a number of customers who use the service through month 7 of pregnancy. They’re also currently expanding their partnerships to meet the needs of the entire term. So stay tuned :).
