It’s a brand new month full of more sun, warmer weather and long spring days. The perfect setting to launch our SIXTH Stylelogue issue over here — heyyyooo!
I’m so pumped on this month’s trend story. Not only is it on point with the weather, but it gives you a fresh take through each of our style personalities on an item that is often referred to as a necessity in April — the trench coat.
We tried to kick it up a notch, per usual. Three looks that aim to inspire you to push the envelope with fashion and give you a little something to play with for the spring months ahead — across classic, trendy and vibrant. Looks to be worn to keep dry from water — or to sport on those cool, sunny days along the water. This month, we bring you — Trench Restyled.

So let’s talk trench, shall we? This coat has some history that dates back over 150 years. It was created as a better alternative for soldiers to wear during their time spent — literally — in the trenches, to keep protected from wind and rain. Each feature of the coat was added for a specific purpose — like a waist belt with rings where soldiers could hang things that they might need while in a trench.
In the late 1800s, a man by the name of Thomas Burberry designed the waterproof twill fabric known as “gaberdine” which enhanced the coat greatly. His plans for the new raincoat were accepted by the UK war office where the coats were used in World War I by British and French soldiers.
Fast forward ahead over the decades, and the trench evolved from its military function. In the 1940s, it gained popularity in Hollywood when detectives, gangsters and seductresses would strut the garment on the screens. It became a highly sought after item via celebrity influence. Once the 1990s hit, fashion houses decided to breath new life into the trench coat by introducing new colors, materials and prints.
The standard camouflage colored coat still continues to have new variations created each season — and this month’s set of looks shows just that. From classic to bright and even a bit of organza.
When I set out to find a trench that pushed the limits and spoke to my style personality, I stepped outside my comfort zone of neutrals and landed on a terracotta colored beauty made of cotton and nylon. It offered practicality for the rainy weather and a pop of punch to elevate my wardrobe of basics.
During my hunt for pieces to style with the coat, I realized I wanted to keep up with the bold. I decided to rock suede booties instead of rain boots. A floral dress representing the blooms that were already forming without the heavy showers. Topped with a woven bag and laid-back shades to highlight the element of spring even more.

Elisa pulled together an assortment of beautiful textures, layers and materials in this month’s look — all within the same color family, which I love. She started with a stylish rose-colored sheer organza trench and paired it over a rust-colored dress with patterns, asymmetrical lines and a drapey neck tie. She kept the outfit playful with her accessories — stand out platform heels and head-turning shades, but added a classic, leather satchel to keep the look practical for both work and play.

Mary has been bringing it lately with her outfits of neutrals and soft materials — offering such a high level of sophistication. Her looks screams modern woman with a gorgeous high sheen beige trench paired over an olive utility jumpsuit. She goes full on chic with white pumps meant for strutting the streets between meetings and happy hour and then throws in elements perfect for the warmer weather — a basket bag and metal framed shades.
