News flash! In case you missed it : last fall, the spring runways introduced a trend that at first glance looks like a military officer and a safari tour guide had a baby. The fashion police are dubbing this the “utility” trend which showcases ways to wear useful clothing across a variety of pieces across many shades of khaki.
You’ve probably seen it flooding your favorite retailers — different, yet similar renditions of jumpsuits, belted trousers, button down dresses and jackets with all the pockets. I love how the trend captures neutral tones and showcases depth by the extra nooks and crannies designed on every piece. If you need a place to store a phone, a snack or even your cards — go for utility wear.
And as you can see from some of my favorite looks captured during fashion month — the garments offer a chic, sophisticated mood. Like, watch out, I’m a chick that means business and gets shit done.

As mentioned above, I was inspired to pull together an outfit comprised of utility wear once I stumbled upon this amazing box-fit jacket. I love the button detail and couldn’t wait to match it with black accessories and my trusty tortoise shell sunnies. Since the jacket offers a looser fit, I opted for a tight (mock neck of course) top — and this bodysuit is a dream. It comes in a handful of colors for only $30.
