This last weekend marked one of my favorite things to look forward to every year in Seattle during the summers… Seafair.
It’s like Christmas in July and is just one of those things that makes Seattle such a unique and special place.
Seafair is an annual non-profit festival that’s been going on since 1950. It spans ten weeks and aims to connect the communities of Seattle with a variety of events and activities.
Things that take place over the period include a variety of running races, a parade, hydro-plane races, a milk carton derby, pirates landing, an air show… and if you’re a lucky resident of Seattle who happens to own a boat or know friends who own one — a celebration on the sea.
I first experienced this celebration back in 2007 when I lived in Seattle during summer break from school at a fraternity of all places. They would often recruit girls to live in their houses over the summer to help pay for summer activities where they’d rush new freshman. As the new girl in the house, I somehow got extended an invite to come on a boat with about 20 others from the house. And it… was… awesome.
Lake Washington literally gets covered with boats — looking like a sea of white. There are boat tie ups everywhere, music blasting, water balloons flying and then the best part — the Blue Angels air show.
I’ve been going every year since and it’s been such a fun evolution. Some years I’d get invited on new friends boats, some years we’d have themes, some years we’d go on a party cruise and others we’d spend on our boat (RIP Big Swingin’).
This year Trevor and I spent Seafair Saturday with all of our closest friends on my bestie’s new boat Big Red and had a party animal theme with lots of good disco house beats playing. It was a doozy!
Since Seafair only happens once a year, it’s a great excuse to update your swimwear :).
I’ve been dying to try the hot new NYC designer brand Solid & Striped and spent days debating over which one piece I could add to my collection, seeing as I only had two I loved.
Each of their suits are of made of high quality European and Japanese fabrics, have a mix of cuts and shapes and are designed as elegant, timeless pieces.
I wanted a sort of retro-chic vibe so I opted for the The Bailey One-Piece in red / blue. How cute are these other colors though?!
The brand offers soo many other cute one-piece styles that I’m dying to share.
I had three sent to my house and am really not wanting to send the other two back…
Have you been to Seafair or tried Solid & Striped swimwear?
