Last month, I had the privilege of meeting the designer and visiting studio of one of the most luxurious clothing lines to come out of Seattle, Schai.

Korean-born Suk Chai always dreamed of beautiful clothing. Especially since she was a child, constantly getting passed hand-me-downs from her old brothers and sister. She put herself through design school at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City (FIT) and then found herself immersed in the design industry, producing womenswear for some of the most established and respected brands over the next twenty years.

After fourteen of those years were spent working for Nordstrom designing for the luxury clientele and developing the retailer’s very own private label, Suk decided she was going to take her experience to a new level.

Thus, in 2014, her very own women’s clothing line was born. Introducing, the world of Schai…

The World of Schai

Schai (a combination of her name — Suk Chai), is a line that represents beliefs around beauty, longevity and comfort. Every item you encounter is a representation of Suk’s notable experience working sector for so many years — elegant design, modern tailoring, architectural lines and only the finest Italian fabrics.

Her collections are divided into seasons, with each quarterly collection having its own story. Salt, Water, Awakening, Soul, Legion and the latest — Monsoon for Spring 2018.

The outfits I’m wearing in this post, happen to both be from her Fall 2017 collection titled “Soul” — where Suk allowed herself to fully express her inner artist. Each piece is a literal representation of her getting her hands dirty, working from the inside out. With details inclusive of subtle frayed edging and seams in light grey or white. They make you feel as if you’re wearing a work of art that was created by the hands of a true artist.

Both comprised of black pairings and each piece made of Tokyo crepe, the Soul collection is one that truly spoke to me when I visited the studio. Sophisticated, modern — items that packed depth and were meant for movement.
