Becoming a new mom has been such a learning experience. I knew I’d have to figure out everything there was to know about how to raise a human. But what I didn’t know, was how much I’d learn about myself along the way. The transition to motherhood, though hard, provides you with a brand new outlook. The thoughts you once had on how to go about your every day are reframed. Mostly, for the better.
If someone was to tell me to think this way before a baby, I would laugh. That’s not how my old self operated. I was a maniac in many ways, but it was all I knew and how I thrived.
In this new chapter of life, I’m learning to give myself more grace. Accepting the new normal — not holding onto the days before that were completely and utterly mine.
Realizing that there are more ways to be fulfilled than I knew before. Treating what I have given and what I have yet to give as the biggest gift and what life really is all about.

Below I’m sharing some examples of this new mom outlook — how my old thoughts have transitioned to new ones — and why I’m pretty okay with that.
Old thought: I need to cross off everything on my daily to-do list in order to feel accomplished.
New thought: I will focus on a few realistic tasks each week to stay on track with my goals.
Old thought: I have to get in at least 4-5 workouts a week to stay in shape.
New thought: Any type of movement or sweat during the week is nurturing to my body.
Old thought: My fitness goal is to be tight and toned.
New thought: My body yet softer, is stronger.
Old thought: I have to respond to texts right away.
New thought: I won’t let my phone depict my schedule and will answer when I have a moment.
Old thought: I should be figuring out what to do next in my career to be successful.
New thought: I am blessed to be able to take a break from my ambitions to raise our baby.
Old thought: I need to post at least once a day on Instagram.
New thought: If I don’t feel inspired, I will allow myself a creative reset.
Old thought: I should be reaching out to my friends more and organizing events.
New thought: The people that matter most in my life know I love them and they love me back.
Old thought: I should get into another self-improvement podcast to learn more.
New thought: I will allow my mind to rest and get lost in a Netflix series every now and then.
Old thought: Today was a bad day, tomorrow I will do more to make it a good day,
New thought: There will be good days, and there will be bad days. Embrace them all.
Old thought: Things will go back to normal soon, once we get more into a routine.
New thought: This is my new normal. Accept it in its entirety.
Let go of the old, make space for the new.
It took me some time to figure out, but I’m embracing this new outlook. These new thoughts are empowering and this new sense of self has me feeling like I can take on new things than I couldn’t before.
So if you are currently struggling as new mom, do me a favor and try to reframe your old thoughts. And if you are preparing for motherhood in the future, remember to stay open and aware during this massive transformation. You’ll come out stronger than ever before.
