The long Memorial Day Weekend came pretty quick this year — so quick Trevor and I were left without any set plans of getting away somewhere fun. Since we just had returned from NYC a week earlier, we decided to spend it at home and prep for Baby B — since we’re quickly approaching the due date! So I felt inspired to share some ideas on how to spend the three day weekend at home this MDW.

Just because it’s a three day weekend, doesn’t mean to you have to get out and go! In fact, you should take advantage of the extra z’s you could catch up on at home in the comfort of your own bed. So turn off that alarm, put on your luxurious sleep mask and snooze to your heart’s content. Whenever you awake, whip up the tastiest brunch you can think of — you can justify any dish from the extra calories burned during your sleep. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself about the decadent french toast and bacon breakky we made yesterday ;).
Craving exercise? You don’t need to travel far for a hike. Being in Seattle, we’re fortunate to have many options for hikes within a 30-90 minute drive, but often, Trevor and I love to keep it local. We put on some stylish urban activewear, strap up Smalls, pick a location and go for it. Sometimes we’ll aim to walk up a giant hill (the Upper Fremont to Lower Fremont to Upper Queen Anne is a killer route), and sometimes we’ll walk with a destination in mind — like a bite downtown. Whatever the course, we make sure it’s at least a 4 mile walk so we can call it a workout and deserve some sort of treat at the end :).
Now this is obviously dependant on the weather, but if your hometown blesses you with some sunshine over this long weekend — get outside. Put on some sunscreen, grab a book and find a cozy spot to nestle up and soak in some rays while you relax. You’ll feel the recharge you need and actually feel like you’re on vacay without even having to leave town. You’ll be finding me on my deck today :).
I know, I know, ‘spring cleaning’ isn’t really considered fun — but it can be if you get to rearrange or redecorate! I feel like I’ve been on a season long clean and purge and maybe this is just how I’ll continue to try and live life — thank you Marie Kondo. But getting rid of old, meaningless clutter, selling items that others could benefit from more than you and making space for the things that really bring you joy does wonders. This weekend as I mentioned in yesterday’s post — we’re totally tackling the baby room, which has come after a ton of trips to Good Will and reorganizing our space. Looking at a clear, new room, I must admit — it feels good. And now time to decorate :).
Finally, howabout taking this wide open long series of days and picking one where you can focus on you. No need to go out and book a spa treatment — though you most certainly can if you have some extra cash to spend. But maybe considering doing multiple treatments that span over several hours at home. Draw a bath and fill it with the most luxurious potions, deeply moisturize your skin following, do a leave-in hair treatment, light candles, give yourself a mani/pedi, meditate… do whatever it takes to make yourself feel like a million bucks. Because you deserve it.

Hope that sparked some ideas for you. I’ll be spending the rest of my weekend doing a good mix of the assortment — so cheers!
