Though it’s taken me many years, I feel as if I finally have a sunglasses collections I’m proud of. An assortment across classics to statement and trend with each pair offering a story and a memory of when and where I purchased them. Today I wanted to share the wealth by providing tips on how to curate the perfect sunglasses collection for yourself.
SHOP MY COLLECTION
When it comes to buying sunglasses, let alone any pair of glasses to wear on your face, you’ve got to know your shape! Now this sounds simple but I could have saved myself a lot of embarrassing photos rocking awkward shades if I would have understood what frames worked with my triangle / heart face.
To determine your shape, pull your hair away from your face and look directly into a mirror. Take a close look at the overall structure and contours of your face and head. Once you match with one of the options below, research which frames work best with your shape. Check out the online tools by Sunglasses Hut and Warby Parker, but definitely make it a point to go try on styles regularly in store.
I love having an assortment of brands with varying price points from low to mid to high in my collection. I mean, let’s be honest, misplacing / dropping / breaking sunglasses is a thing. That being said, buying low-quality sunglasses is pointless — unless you’re going to a theme party or something and seeking a $15 pair. Especially if you’re a woman in your thirties like me. Why? First off, you deserve more than putting something cheap on that very well taken care of face, girl. Second, excess clutter. More stress and more ish to store and eventually give away.
Once you are equipped with the above knowledge, it’s time to curate an assortment of styles that work with all types of occasions and outfits. I have my go-to pairs for everyday walks, daytime activities, workwear and weekend play. Though you may read you can only pull off one or two styles based on your face shape, I urge you to keep trying on a style if you really like it. For example, I’ve always struck out with aviators due to my small frame and high brow placement, but luckily stuck with the hunt and landed on a pair that fits perfect.
Now that you have your collection across various styles and price points, it’s important to display your shades in a place where you can see them and pull from them everyday depending on your outfit or the occasion. I love a good modern, minimal look so I’ve pulled some acrylic options below.
Hope this helped your sunglasses hunting. Stay stylish friends.
