This year, I’m taking a new approach to my shopping habits. First and foremost — investing in a small but mighty amount of high quality basics — elevated basics as I like to call them. And second — pulsing in the occasional statement piece that not only pairs well with the assortment of essentials in my closet, but truly represents my personality and the edginess I like to portray with my modern style.
If you follow the very popular Arielle Charnas of style blog, Something Navy, you know that just this last year she launched her own private label through Nordstrom. Such goals!
I’ve been falling in love with pieces from her collection since launch — but the piece that’s stood out the most so far has got to be this beautiful green belted dress. Vibrant, head-turning but completely versatile in the fact that you can take it from the desk to dinner — and then some.

Arielle has always been one of my favorite influencers because she allows her real, everyday quirky personality to shine through her feminine and chic style on the daily. I love following her behind the scenes at home, with her amazing dancer of a husband, hilarious sisters (#MPdances is my favorite) and of course her two adorable little girls.
The thing her and I have in common — which I just about died when I heard her talk about it during her recent Nordstrom Live interview — is our love and passion for “elevated basics”.
Watch the 5 second bit below to see what I’m talking about:
She describes the Something Navy collection as a compilation of elevated basics — everyday basics that are a little more elevated. The happy medium between what’s super trendy right now and what you can feel comfortable wearing on the daily.
I think the way she describes this concept is very similar to how I’ve been communicating it — in the way that you’re dealing with pieces you can style for your everyday.
Her feminine and effortlessly chic silhouettes make the collection full of basics along with beautiful statement pieces that can be styled for day or night in the most versatile and sensible manner.

The dress that’s stood out to me the most from the Something Navy Collection is no doubt this green floral belted dress with — wait for it — pockets! It can be worn under a sweater, jacket or standalone for a day or evening event. I love the contrast with black and green, making it a perfect option for both winter and spring.
I decided to pull from the black (obviously) and pair with elevated black accessories to create a high low look. I was excited to wear my Chanel booties I score way back when at a sample sale (similar style here) along with my prized possession designer bag — the Celine Belt Bag (crazy affordable dupe here). Then my beloved new and on-sale Aritzia coat (similar style in longer version here) and a pair of chic designer sunnies — and the look is complete.
Take. Me. Out.
What are your thoughts on Arielle’s collection? Leave them below and let me know how you’d style this dress for winter or spring!
