Some pretty exciting happenings in the office of The Grey Edit lately — with the biggest being a life long dream.
I’m going to NYC for New York Fashion Week next month!
Please pinch me.
In honor of the highly anticipated season ahead and this exciting upcoming event where the streets are crowded with some of the most stylish in the world — I thought it was appropriate to do a Friday Five around trends to watch for this fall.
And don’t worry, I’ll reporting back on ALL the spring trends following my trip.
After stalking designer sites, fashion publications and instagram accounts galore — here’s what I’m seeing for this fall…
—
Yes, the plaid trend is here to stay — but this time around there’s an elevated take on the check print. Less sporty, more grown up. Rich, tailored plaids like herringbone, glen plaid, houndstooth. Asymmetrical cuts and and mixed materials. And the best part? The more plaid the better. Plaid on plaid is where it’s at.
Think all-american with a mix of yee haw. Really pulling from the Wild West you’ll see cowboy prints, fringe and embellished boots. Mix that in with ruched details and busy, prairie-like prints and you’ve got yourself a trend.
Go big or go home any way you can. Oversized pieces ranging from balloon sleeve and shoulder detail to jackets five sizes to big. Layering is they key with this trend — to make the overall look seem large, maximized and oh so show stopping.
Hot and full of power, you’ll see this color in monochromatic styling with varying shades of red. Rocked head to toe is best — and the result is actually quite beautiful vs the assumed aggressive. Pull from the other trends by adding an oversized statement jacket, a transparent bag or ruched red booties. Get going with your bad self and be prepared to turn heads!
Think long lines and a chic color palette — pieces that offer everything around a slim silhouette. Sophistication at its finest and an excellent cleanser to the busy prints, bright colors and loud accessories of the season. Minimal goodness — my kind of trend.

So what do you think? Which trend will you be gravitating to this next season?
