I don’t know if it’s my whole “elevated basics” mindset or if I’m just trying to dress easy, but so far this summer I’ve been really feeling the casual, girl next door look.
Yes, there’s a current heatwave in the PNW, but there’s been something about wearing my favorite pairs of straight fit denim with a quality tank or tee…
When you invest in a good pair of denim, it’s like the gift that keeps on giving year round. You’re not just paying for a one-time wear as you would with a printed jumpsuit or dress, you’re paying for an addition to your wardrobe that will last and take you from season to season.
For the last year my favorite pair (as you may already know) has been the Levi’s Wedgie Icon Jean in the Lost Inside wash.
But after I hit up the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access, I added another live-in pair of denim to my lineup — the Current/Elliot Ripped Original Straight Leg Jean in Blue Smoke wash.
I think the details that make up the perfect pair of easy denim are a loose fit, a straight leg, a distressed hem, a little ruggedized wear and a cropped leg, so you can wear with flats or sandals or sneaks or heels.
The thing about easy denim is that it’s easy to pair a tank or tee with your perfect pair. This tank is one I’m straight living in. I stumbled upon the cuuutest boutique a few weekends ago during our trip to Friday Harbor called Deer Hazel — a must visit if you’re ever there — and fell in love with a new brand out of LA – Joah Brown — who makes this tank.
Why am I in love? One, it’s soft as hell. Two, they have a ton of sexy muscle tanks (my fave). And three, the brand story is all about believing that a woman looks best in her boyfriend’s tee shirt and sweats. Comfortable clothing, effortless and easy. Talk about elevated basics….
And if you’re doing basics like your girl, there are some great opportunities for accessorizing!
I’m loving pops of white this summer, and below I’m dropping my faves across handbags and mules.
Oh, did you say you need a pop of color? There’s a scarf for that…
Because you know — elevated basics are versatile AF.
So there you have it. Easy, peezy, summer breezy :).
Drop those thoughts below, babes.
