I don’t consider myself an expert in fashion, but I’ve definitely learned a thing or two over the last two decades — or at least from when I was able to afford my own clothes. Years ago, designer items seemed so untouchable to me. I was too busy keeping up with trends, shopping to shop, buying to buy. This year, I’m on my fifth closet purge since Spring and have been learning a lot about my style. Where it’s been and where it’s going.
When I reflect on my style, it’s:
Classic, but modern…
Simple, with some edge…
Outfits comprised of black and grays…
Home decorated in white and neutrals.
A style to me that is about investing in the classics, while keeping up with the fast and fun trends — mixing the high and low price points.
And what I’ve realized, is that when you make investments on those designer items you’ve been eyeing for months maybe years, those items don’t seem that unattainable after all. Rather than dropping hundreds at the Savvy and TBD departments at Nordstrom over a weekend, maybe you can take that money and use it on one larger, more impactful purchase at Salon shoes, or Designer handbags.
And an extra bonus? Designer items go on sale. All the time.
So for those last minute holiday shoppers — whether you’re a guy struggling for your girlfriend, a wife trying to spoil your mother-in-law, a husband wanting to really wow his wife — try giving the gift of designer, on sale. You won’t be sweating as much at the counter during checkout, and your loved one will no doubt be wowed when opening your gift.
And for those of you who don’t need to buy any gifts for anyone… go ahead and treat yourself. Why not end the year with a bang?
