Now that we’re officially less than two months away from our July 18th due date — it’s time to start prepping Baby B’s Nursery! With three days at home ahead for this long Memorial Day Weekend — we’re taking advantage and getting to work. And while Trevor slaves away at painting, I thought I’d let you in on my design ideas and share some inspo around what we’re envisioning for the space…
When it came to putting our heads together on what both Trevor and I wanted our soon-to-be baby boy’s room to look like, I won’t lie, we had some differences. At first, Trevor started pinning rooms with painted art walls and sticker decals — you know, “to stimulate the brain” as he put it. I started panicking and reminded him that once our boy got older he’d be able to choose all the details he wanted. But for now, it was a space for us to spend time with him in that jived with the rest of our home. He begged me to make sure we stayed far from being “sterile” with my obsessed for minimal black and white — and I agreed. So, as a happy medium we decided a pop of color was going to where we met in the middle. And to keep things original, we veered from the expected blue hue and chose a rich, adventurous emerald green as our statement color.
As another compromise, we combined his love for stimulating the brain and my love for black and white and decided having geometric designs within the room would be perfect. We’ve found some really cool wallpaper designs for a splash wall and numerous cozy rugs. Unfortunately, we’ve been blessed with the craziest plastered walls with living in a 1920s home, so wallpaper might be a stretch, but there’s definitely not a shortage of patterned floor accessories on the market right now.
Finally, we needed to make sure the space — alongside with all of the plush cozies, books and art we planned to fill the room with — felt warm, homey and welcoming. So, adding in touches of natural elements would be necessary. This is where I have to be careful though — because when I show Trevor rooms like the below, he expresses “we’re no boho couple” and has even gone so far to say “it looks like a jungle safari”. Haha… at least he has opinions when it comes to style, right?. This is where I remind him we can pull off a natural look with finishes of wood, jute, linen, basket, metals, leather and of course plants. He’s still skeptical here but trusts me.
So with the above three elements combined, we’ve decided Baby B’s room was going to be dubbed a Naturally Modern Emerald Nursery. I’ve spent months browsing the interwebs, seeking the right pieces to compile this vision — which I’m sharing in a mood board below.
Though we’re still debating on the right rug, light fixture and decor — we’ve got a few things hammered out:
FURNITURE
WINDOWS
RUG OPTIONS
LIGHTING / MIRRORS
DECOR
So there you have it — the inspo driving our busy weekend! Let me know what your thoughts are on this design in the comments below.
Counting down to July 18!
