A Thoughtful Shacket Purchase for the Colder Months

We’ve been seeing them all over Instagram and on the streets ever since Fall hit. The shirt jacket, most notably known as the shacket, is a new staple for the colder months. And if you’ve been wanting one and have yet to pull the trigger, I wanted to remind you to be thoughtful about the purchase of this piece… making sure it’s one that will last in your wardrobe.
It’s easy to feel like you’re behind when there are 30-60 second videos being thrown at us of winter hauls and the items you “need” to buy this season. But take it from a recovering shopoholic — if you’re considering adding a new jacket to your wardrobe, don’t just impulsively buy the first one you see. Or the cheapest. Or the one that said influencer has. Consider the money you’ll be spending on this item with the hope to have it add value to your closet.
Look for a piece that…
made of quality materials
can last you season to season
provide you versatility
and a bit of originality, or edge
I like to call these pieces elevated basics, and the shacket is a great example of one. You can find great options in wool and cotton. To wear for seasons to come (I’m on year three of this guy). To layer above your base layers and under your heavier coats.
It doesn’t have to be expensive to be the right piece to add to your wardrobe. No need to grab one in every length and color. Buy you finally come across the piece that speaks to you, consider that it might be the one.
Here are a few of my current fave shackets —
